What you need

  • MetaTrader 5 on Windows. There is no MT4 version yet. Any broker works.
  • A machine that stays on while you trade. Most people run MT5 on a Windows VPS. The Agent can only report while its terminal runs.
  • A correct clock. Windows' clock and time zone must be right. If they are more than 5 minutes off, reports are refused, and the panel says so.
  • Two-step verification (2FA) on your Quantrivance account, with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or 1Password. It must be on before you can connect an account, because your account can stop trading.
  • A seat for the account. Each connected MT5 account takes one seat. Start the free trial or a subscription on the Plan page first.

The whole set-up takes about ten minutes. The Get started page in the app walks you through it and ticks off each step.

Install the Agent

  1. Download QuantrivanceAgent.ex5 from Download Agent in the app's menu. The Get started page shows its SHA-256 checksum if you want to check the file.
  2. In MT5, open File → Open Data Folder, then MQL5 → Experts, and put the file there.
  3. In MT5's Navigator, right-click Expert Advisors and choose Refresh. QuantrivanceAgent appears in the list.

If you are updating an Agent that is already running, restart MT5, or remove the Agent from its chart and attach it again. Switching the timeframe does not load the new file.

Allow WebRequest

MT5 blocks EAs from talking to the internet unless you allow each address. The Agent needs one:

  1. Open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors.
  2. Tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL.
  3. Add https://api.quantrivance.com, exactly as written, and press OK.

This is the only address the Agent talks to. The Agent starts every connection itself; nothing outside can connect to your terminal through it.

Add the account and its token

  1. In the app, open MT5 accounts and add an account: a name of your choice, and the login and server exactly as MT5 shows them.
  2. Create a token and copy it. It is shown once. If you lose it, create a new one; the old one stops working at once.
  3. In MT5, drag QuantrivanceAgent onto any chart. On the Inputs tab, double-click the value of Agent token, paste the token, and press OK.
  4. Make sure Algo Trading is on in MT5's toolbar, so the Agent can run.

The Agent's panel appears in the chart's top left corner. When its bar turns green and says REPORTING, the account's figures arrive in Quantrivance within a minute. The first time, the Agent also sends the account's whole deal history, in batches, so older results fill in over the next few minutes.

One Agent per terminal, and one token per account. For several accounts, repeat these steps in each account's terminal. The Agent can sit on any chart, including one where another EA trades; it does not get in its way.

If the panel is not green

The panel's Status row says what is wrong. The usual causes:

Next, give your EAs names: Name your strategies by magic number.

Every account, one dashboard

Once an account reports, it appears on the Portfolio page with your other accounts: combined equity, NAV and drawdown, with each EA's results on the Strategies page.
